Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, and stuffing bellies. Did you make your stretchy pants proud yesterday?
I hope that everyone had a fantastic day yesterday, and was able to spend quality time with family. I absolutely love Thanksgiving food and look forward to the meal every year. And I know the turkey is the star of the show, but I could literally just eat the side dishes and be fully content! Anyone else with me on this one?? Stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls, mmmm... Thank goodness for left overs! And there's nothing better than a full belly before going out and shopping 'til you drop! Unless you really did bust through those stretchy pants and decide you want to try on clothes. (Not that I'm speaking from experience.)
I sported a simple and sophisticated mani for yesterday's festivities. I just love these two colors together and think they are the perfect duo for fall - OPI's "Lost on Lombard" and "First Date at the Golden Gate", both from the San Francisco collection.

I really wanted a mani that gave the feel of Thanksgiving and Fall, without painting a big fat turkey on my finger (let's be serious, if I did that you probably wouldn't be able to tell what it was anyway!) I think the subtle contrast in colors gives the essence of Fall perfectly. I started by painting my thumb, pointer finger, and pinky in "Lost on Lombard", and my ring finger and middle finger in "First Date at the Golden Gate". I painted two coats of each, and let them dry. Once dry, I painted the tips in the opposite color, creating the subtle contrast. If you read my last blog post (and if you didn't, you should - you'll love it!), you'll notice that I used "First Date at the Golden Gate" for the cheetah mani, too. It's amazing how much more of a burnt orange feel it has to it when it's up against the deeper burgundy hue in "Lost on Lombard". |
! TIP: An easy way to get the tips in a straight line is to keep the brush still and slowly rotate your finger on a hard surface, as you slide the brush across the top of your nail. You will get some nail polish on your skin using this method, but use a Q-tip or small brush dipped in acetone to wipe away the excess from your skin.
For all you bacon lovers...is your mouth watering yet? Hop on over to my Recipes page if you want to learn how to make this addicting little treat! I promise that you won't regret it! | Now, in honor of the food fest that is Thanksgiving, I'm skipping the drink and bringing you a delicious recipe instead. One that involves....BACON! What!? Bacon on Thanksgiving? Yes! It shouldn't just be about the birds, the pigs need some love, too! Also, I just saw a recipe the other day for a "bacon wrapped turkey", so I decided bacon was a fully acceptable addition to this year's meal. This delicious bacon is called Pig Candy, and it only consists of 3 ingredients - bacon, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper, and it's really easy to make. Candy is a perfect way to describe this - you can't just have one! It was a HUGE HIT yesterday! |
The night ended with some crazy late night shopping. Yes! I'm one of those crazies that stays out until the wee hours of the morning on Thanksgiving/Black Friday to score a deal (2:30 a.m., to be exact!) Sad thing is, I didn't really have a super specific thing that I was looking for, and I easily could have just gone this morning, but I thought it would be fun to keep with tradition and start shopping on Thanksgiving night! (Sorry to anyone in retail, I know you hate me right now!) All in all it was a great day, and I'm glad I got to spend time with family and enjoy some great laughs!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you stop by often!
