My week started out with a new pair of shoes! Whoop, Whoop!
I purchased these cute black and cream striped ballet flats at Target last weekend, and to say I'm obsessing over them is an understatement! I took advantage of Target's buy 1 get 1 half off sale, and picked up a pair of nude ballet flats, too! I think the striped ones are super fun and funky, and I'm in love!
My new kicks definitely set my mani mood for the week. I've mentioned before that I really love neutrals, and the black & cream in my new ballet flats had me yearning for a neutral mani to coordinate with my outfits during week. I wanted something simple yet still interesting and fun, so I chose Zoya's Tomoko, a soft gold PixieDust (textured glitter) polish.
The gold is soft enough that it totally passes as a neutral, but it's unique and the texture of the glitter adds a little something extra to the look. I absolutely love this polish, and even though the PixieDusts are being discontinued, it's still available on Zoya's website for $10! It's easily my favorite polish at the moment, and one that I gravitate towards often. You might remember that I used it as an accent nail here and here, but I wanted all of my nails in on the action this time!

I sported this simple look for two days, before deciding to change things up. Instead of starting from scratch, I opted to keep my Tomoko base, and added on various sized dots using Zoya's Raven, a black cream polish with a hint of shimmer. I received Raven as a freebie at the Go Red for Women event held in Cleveland last month. THANKS ZOYA! I was super pumped to receive free polish (even if it was black), and if you've been creeping on my Instagram, you might remember my terribly lit bottle shot that I took in pure excitement when I realized nail polish was in my goodie bag! Over excited much, Katey?
These polka dots are EXTREMELY EASY! All you need is a bobby pin and a piece of tin foil. First, put a small amount of polish on the tin foil. Tin foil works nicely because it doesn't soak up or absorb any of the polish. Next, bend the bobby pin so that it's in a V shape, and dip the rounded head of the bobby pin into the polish. Don't completely dunk it in the polish, but instead just try to get the tip coated. Next, press the tip of the bobby pin onto your nail. You can manipulate the size of the dots by varying the amount of pressure and polish that you apply. More pressure will create larger dots, and less pressure will make the dots smaller. And that's it! I wasn't overly concerned with a symmetrical pattern, I just had fun with it! I think the black and gold look really pretty together and I'm always up for a quick and easy mani.
And now...WE DRINK! I concocted this delicious fruity cocktail and enjoyed it while painting my first neutral mani of the week. I had never made it before, just used a few things I had at the house, and came up with something sooo yummy! I don't even have a name for it - shall we call it the Mandrin Vodka Limonata? Sure, why not!
Here's what's in this tasty drink...
Ingredients
Directions
I was sooo impressed with my drink making capabilities after having this drink! It was delicious, and I even said out loud "Wow, nice job Katey!"... and I was home alone!
Ingredients
- 1 shot Absolut Mandrin Vodka
- 1 can San Pellegrino Limonata
- 2 strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 lemon, sliced
- 4 pineapple chunks
- 1 cup ice
Directions
- In a cocktail shaker, dump strawberries, pineapple, lemon slices, Absolut Mandrin Vodka, and ice.
- Shake, shake, shake... Shake, shake, shake.... Shake your b̶o̶o̶t̶y̶ cocktail shaker (for 1 minute). After you shake the mixture and it gets nice and cold, let it sit for a minute or two so the fruit flavors can absorb into the vodka, then shake for another minute.
- Using the strainer on your cocktail shaker, pour the vodka mixture into your glass. You just want the liquid, none of the ice or fruit chunks. You can reuse the fruit for a second drink.
- Next, top off your fruity vodka with San Pellegrino Limonata, garnish with strawberry and lemon, and enjoy!
