Hubby For Dessert? What a name! I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the meetings that must take place when thinking up the names of new polishes!
You might remember that I recently posted an Essie Bridal 2015 Sighting post after spotting the collection in my local Walgreens. I said I wouldn't buy any of the polishes until I saw swatches of them, but I couldn't resist! I think I knew when I said it that was lying to myself, but at least it held off a purchase for a few weeks, right?
This collection hasn't gotten a lot of buzz in the nail world, so swatches aren't easy to find. I wasn't overly thrilled with any of the polishes in the collection, but Hubby for Dessert did catch my eye, so I decided to go and pick it up. I'm really glad I did! Keep reading to find out why!

Essie describes this color as a sheer, candied lilac. It's a very faint lilac/lavender crelly polish, with a milky, squishy finish. I also see some some grey undertones in this polish. I think the bottle is definitely looking a bit grey in my pictures.
Here are my thoughts on the formula & application. It's sheer. If you can master the application, this polish is gorgeous! The first coat goes on streaky and blotchy. The 2nd coat builds it up a bit, but it's still uneven and streaky after 2 coats. The 3rd coat, if applied with a light hand, evens everything out. You'll find that you need to use a slightly thicker 3rd coat to get the polish to smooth and even itself out, but I personally really like the outcome so it's worth it to me.
If you are familiar with other Essie polishes, I feel like this polish has the exact same formula as Ballet Slippers. In my opinion, it is literally the same polish, except Ballet Slippers is a soft pink, and Hubby For Dessert is a soft lilac. I absolutely loved Ballet Slippers and used it so much that I was down to less than half a bottle and it started to get goopy on me. You might remember from my Valentine's Day post that I stopped using my Ballet Slippers due to the goopiness and picked up Sweet Heart by OPI. This polish, however, really reminded me of how much I loved Ballet Slippers when it was brand new. I just might need to replace mine!
I think some people might be frustrated with the formula, but if you know what you're getting yourself into, have reasonable expectations, and are cautious with your application, you won't be disappointed. I promise! It would be a great polish to wear on your wedding day, too! I will be a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding this fall, and this polish will definitely be a contender for my wedding mani!
