Manis & Margaritas has hit a milestone this weekend by reaching 100 followers on Bloglovin'! Whoohoo! High fives all around! I'll be honest, 100 followers is peanuts in the world of blogging, but it's still a nice round number and feels like a milestone for this newbie blogger. I've officially been blogging for 4 months now. Yay, I stuck with it! It's nice to know that there are people out there that have actually chosen to follow and read my blog. So if you're one of them, THANKS! I appreciate your support!
WHAT IS BLOGLOVIN' ?
For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll explain. Bloglovin' is a website, and phone app, that allows you to follow your favorite blogs. It's a feed based site, that shows all of new posts from the blogs you choose to follow in one place. Whenever one of the blogs you follow uploads a new article, it automatically shows up in your feed on Bloglovin'. The great thing about it? Only blogs you choose to follow show up in your feed, so you can be selective about what you see. I love this because I'm not bogged down with a bunch of stuff I don't care to read. I open up my Bloglovin' app literally everyday and catch up on my favorite blogs - while drinking my morning coffee, before bed, even in the bathroom (ha!). TMI?
Above is an example of what my feed looks like. For each new article, it shows the name of the blog, how long ago it was posted, the title of the article, and a fun little picture to help you see what the article is about. Below is another view of my feed, but this time on the phone app.
Another cool thing about Bloglovin' is that you have your own personal profile, where you can save all of your favorite articles to refer back to later. Each article has a small heart icon, and if you click it you can save it to your profile, or add it to a collection, to easily refer back to at a later date. The collection feature helps you categorize the articles, similar to saving Pinterest pins to a specific board. It's so easy to use, and if you love to read and follow blogs, or if you have a blog of your own, I think Bloglovin' is a really handy tool.
If you have a blog of your own, and you're not on Bloglovin', listen up! You'll want to "claim" your blog. This means that you are telling Bloglovin' "Yep, that's mine!". You'll then be able to link your blog into your profile. Make sure you follow your own blog, so that your blog posts show up in your feed, too. This way, you'll be able to see the view that your readers have when your post shows up in their feed.

MAKE YOUR PAGE VIEWS COUNT ON BLOGLOVIN'
There's this one pesky thing about Bloglovin'...which really only bloggers care about. But if you like the blogs that you read, you'll really help them out if you change one simple setting in your profile. Normally, when you click on a blog post in your feed that you want to read, it automatically opens in the "Bloglovin' frame". This means you are technically still on the Bloglovin' page and unless you click the "X" and close the Bloglovin' frame, your view doesn't get counted as a "page view" for the blogger in their Google Analytics stats. This is the super nerdy statistical stuff that bloggers care about.
By following the easy steps below, you can change your settings so that the blog post does not open in the "Bloglovin' frame", and instead your click redirects you directly to the website containing the blog post. And your favorite bloggers get a page view! I promise, we're into that sort of nerdy thing.
First, click on your profile picture and click on Settings.
First, click on your profile picture and click on Settings.
Next, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, and chose "I don't want the frame". Click "Save settings", and you're good to go. Now, when you click on a post in your feed, you'll be redirected directly to the site that contains the post. I've tested my theory out, and after I changed my settings, and removed the frame, all of my page views started to count in Google Analytics!
OK, COOL KATEY. SO HOW DO I GET THIS BLOGLOVIN' THING?
STILL CONFUSED? Maybe you'll recognize this little button that can be found in various places here on Manis & Margaritas.
Do you recognize it? I've been trying to get you to click it for the last four months! (He, he!) Have you clicked it? If you have, thanks! You're one of the 100 people that seem to like me! If not, you can click it now and get started on your Bloglovin' adventure. Below are some of my favorite blogs, and of course, if you're not already, I'd sure love it if you followed Manis & Margaritas!
