Black polish is one of those colors that feels risky to wear. Let's face it - it's intimidating! At least it is for me. I like how it looks when I see it on other people, but when I wear it, I always question if people will try to look deep into my soul to figure out why I'm wearing black polish. And to be honest, sometimes I wonder myself..."How do I justify black polish if it's not Halloween?" and "Is it appropriate to wear on it's own?" I've recently decided - yes - black polish is perfectly fine to wear outside of Halloween, and just because I'm wearing it, it doesn't mean I'm sad, or emo, or any other depressing sounding emotion that comes to mind.
I'll be honest, I haven't worn black polish on it's own, other than to take the picture above. I will typically add some other element to my manicure to spice it up a bit and give some life to my dark mani. So I thought I'd share with you 3 easy ways I spice up my mani and rock my black polish.
1. Add a Glittery Top Coat
1. Add a Glittery Top Coat
Adding a glitter topcoat to your mani instantly changes its look, and it's soooooooo easy! You can take it from dark and vampy to fun and sparkly with practically no effort at all. For this look, I did two coats of black polish and then topped it with "Fairy Dust" by China Glaze. The small holographic micro glitters in Fairy Dust sit in a clear base, creating a sparkly rainbow effect on your nails. I think it gives the manicure a fun galaxy look!
2. Paint on Some Silver Tips
I like to create a cool, funky look by using a thin nail art brush to line the tips of my nails with silver or chrome polish. Here, I'm using OPI's "Haven't the Foggiest". It's a fun twist on a traditional french manicure. (Side note- My hands were really dry when I took these pictures and I may have gone a little overboard on the oil & lotion - Whoops!)

3. Create a Fun Accent Nail
A little Chevron goes a long way! Find a fun nail wrap to use as an accent nail on your ring finger. It's an easy way to add something interesting to your manicure, and the nail art is already done for you! These little buggers are perfect for a lazy night, or when you can't quite get your creative juices flowing. I'm using the Jamberry nail wrap CN02-Black & White Chevron. Nail wraps are touch and go - you either love them or hate them. I'm currently on the learning to love side. I like to use them as accent nails, especially when I don't have a lot of time to spend on nail art, but I have yet to attempt an entire Jamberry manicure.
