I'm popping in today with a little post on the new L'Oreal spring collection, Haute Florals by Colour Riche. I saw this collection at my local grocery store the other day, and was immediately drawn to all of the gorgeous colors. (Did I mention that I love the fact that the place I buy my bananas and potatoes also has nail polish? It's dangerous!) There are 6 coordinating creme polishes and one glitter topper, all in the blue/purple/pink/coral family. Like a dummy, I forgot to take a picture of the actual display in the store; however, pop on over to this post at Nouveau Cheap, and you'll see what I mean about how these colors go together like peas and carrots! These are the type of shades I'm into! They are bright pastels, and the darker pinks lean towards coral. Bottom line, I would love a bouquet of flowers in this color palette! You reading this, hubby?
I decided to grab two polishes. I knew I wanted the glitter topper, Garden Bouquet, because it's unique and not like anything else in my collection. Next, my eye was immediately drawn to Hint of Lavender to pair with it.
Hint of Lavender
Hint of Lavender is a pink creme with a strong lavender tint to it. It's sooo pretty! The first coat was a tiny bit streaky, but it evened itself out with a bit of a thicker second coat. Gorgeous! I just love this color! I'm often drawn to and inspired by colors that I've seen recently...that is exactly what happened in this case. Keep reading...
If you've been with me for a bit, you'll remember that I recently bought Zoya's Perrie, and when I got Hint of Lavender home, I had a bit of a panic because I thought I had just bought Perrie's dupe! I subconsciously got my inspiration to buy Hint of Lavender from my recent purchase of Perrie. My collection is no where near big enough to start buying dupes, so I quickly swatched both Perrie and Hint of Lavender to give myself some ease. The verdict? Close, but no cigar! Phew! Perrie is definitely much darker than Hint of Lavender. While they are without a doubt in the same color family, I can safely say they are two different shades. Note to future self - do a mani that uses both of these!
Garden Bouquet
As mentioned, the glitter polish was a no brainer for me. I liked how delicate it looked in the bottle - it's full of matte light pink flowers, small light pink circle and hex glitters, and mint green bar glitter, all in a clear base. This is spring in a bottle, and I thought it would look awesome as an accent nail over Hint of Lavender.
While I liked the outcome of this mani, the glitter polish was a bit difficult to work with. The large flower glitters just didn't want to come out of the bottle. I definitely had to fish around for them. Honestly, it was more of an issue of them not wanting to come up through the neck of the bottle than anything else. I could get them on my brush (this polish is packed with glitter), but they would fall off when I brought the brush up. When I did get them out, they didn't want to lay flat on my nail, and also kept settling at the tips of my nails. I have a few tips after playing around with this polish that might help those of you that purchase this, and I definitely want to wear this again so I'll use these methods next time, too!
- Try to avoid the large matte flowers initially, and cover the nail with the smaller glitters on your first coat.
- After you've coated the nail with the smaller glitters, use a toothpick or tweezers to place the large glitters in the specific spots you want them in. I have very curved nails, and I found that the glitters didn't want to lay flat, so I used a toothpick to sort of press the flowers down a bit.
- Seal the nail with a quick dry top coat. This step helped to smooth out my mani, since the glitters left it feeling pretty textured.
I decided to try the glitter over a white polish, too, in order to achieve a different look. It's pretty light in the picture below, so it may be difficult to see, but this was a very pretty delicate look, and I seriously felt like I needed to go to a garden party, outdoor spring wedding, or baby shower or something when I had it on. It's a very subtle, unique look!
The full Haute Florals collection is made of up:
- Wispy Clouds - a light blue pastel.
- Spring Showers - a pastel periwinkle.
- Hint of Lavender - a pastel pink with a lavender tint.
- Violette - a bright violet, with pink undertones
- Rose Symphony - a bright, raspberry pink
- Sweet Nectar - a pink toned coral
- Garden Bouquet - clear base with light pink matte flower glitter, light pink circle & hex glitter, and mint green bar glitter.
